Rats. "Terminator Genisys" was VERY disappointing. If I were 13, it might be awesome. But now, it's a lotta leftovers and re-treads, and not in that cool-hip retro way. More of the pitiable way. He's old, she's helium, and Kyle Reese is a himbo here—hardly the deep thinker we require for effective apocalyptic narration. (Jai Courtney is no Michael Biehn; sorry; wish that he was.) There's about as much chemistry as in Jurassic World, and I don't mean of the labby test t...ube variety. Bottom-line, the effort finishes a smidge stronger (or louder) than it begins but, on the whole, it's still 125 minutes of regenerating metal and nine lives. The only saving grace? Seeing it with dear friends. With "Ted 2" and "Magic Mike" your alternatives this weekend, it's gonna be a l-o-n-g 4th until next Friday's family-friendly "Minions" arrives. And count on this: it will be MASSIVE, not minion. Meantime, if you need a fallback, they're playing "Rocky IV" and "Jaws 3" at Alamo Drafthouse on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Like I said, bleak. Bang-bang-fizz.
